Invitation
Dear Superintendents, Curriculum Coordinators, High School Principals, and CTE Directors:
Please join me on Wednesday, August 27, at Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships for All Students: A Showcase of Best Practices. This event is sponsored by the Maine Department of Education and the Successful Schools Network/International Center for Leadership in Education and will be held at the Augusta Civic Center. The plan for our day includes three major parts:
- Dr. Willard Daggett, President of the International Center for Leadership in Education
- Maria LaFort, Associate Principal at Brockton High School in Brockton, MA will discuss that school s remarkable journey to success. Brockton has overcome challenging demographics to deliver a rigorous and relevant education to all students and achieve success on state assessments
- Presentation of successful practices and strategies aligned to engaging students and supporting a relevant 21st century education will be delivered by schools from Maine involved in our high school initiative sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well as other Maine schools that have implemented practices where students are achieving at high levels
Coffee, tea, and snacks will be available at 8:00am, with Bill Daggett s presentation beginning at 9:00am. In the afternoon, we will be breaking into groups for presentations by individual schools, rotating the groups around the room every half hour. Our day will conclude no later than 4:00pm.
I recognize that this comes at a time whereby all of you are deeply engaged in the start-up of the new school year. However, I am hopeful that you will be able to bring a team and celebrate the opening of the school year.
