About the Maine Curriculum Leaders' Association
The Maine Curriculum Leaders' Association (MCLA) is a nonprofit membership organization established in 2007. Our members include district curriculum coordinators, assistant superintendents, directors of instruction, lead teachers, principals, superintendents, and education consultants who support curriculum, instruction, and assessment development.
MCLA's Purpose is to champion curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices and policies that enhance learning. The MCLA Board of Directors and its members work together to:
- Promote and provide professional learning.
- Influence policy and decision making.
- Advance the use of effective practices.
- Develop and foster partnerships with organizations consistent with our mission.
- Support opportunities for networking and sharing.
Our Vision for 2020
MCLA is a recognized expert voice on effective learning practices and their applications in schools and districts. State and local policy makers view MCLA as a non-political source of information and guidance, and seek its participation in the development of state education policy. MCLA's board, members, and stakeholders develop thoughtful responses to proposed education policies and propose additional approaches necessary to enhance learning in Maine.
MCLA actively supports curriculum leaders at the state and local levels. It:
- Publishes a regular education journal and frequent newsletters and updates representing "cutting edge" curriculum, instruction, and assessment theory, skills, and implementation;
- Maintains high quality, user-friendly technology to promote two-way communication;
- Provides rich professional develop-ment in conferences, subcommittees, special interest groups, and webinars, and through dissemination of funded local action research projects;
- Mentors new curriculum leaders and providing them with free MCLA memberships.
MCLA's structure provides members with ample opportunities to guide the organization as it influences public education in Maine. Members serve on a number of standing committees encompassing policy, budget, and curriculum, instruction, and assessment practice. MCLA's board maintains strong, collegial relationships with other professional organizations and with higher education. MCLA's paid staff members support its members and board in fulfilling their responsibilities to champion curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices and policies that enhance learning.
